ABOUT US

The creation of The Royal – Glenside’s newest 100-person capacity live music venue – was driven by life experience, daily struggles, and a desire to be inclusive.

The COVID-19 global pandemic changed our world forever. Over the past few years, many cherished Glenside businesses, including The Blue Comet, The Bike Works, and others were forced to close their doors. The music community was especially hard-hit by the loss of music venues, not just in Glenside but throughout the Philadelphia area.

Our founders – Bridgett Gordon and Jerry Clarke – believe that Glenside and its neighboring communities needed a destination, a home for music, as we inched our way out of the pandemic.

Our vision is to provide a creative home where people of all backgrounds, music of all genres, and musicians of all experience levels feel welcome. We invite members of the community to come together and celebrate the local music and comedy scene, local artists, and local businesses. We want the musicians and comedians who play in our venue to feel they are participating in a “red carpet” event, whether they are novices just starting out or professionals who have toured for years. We want to treat musicians – and their listeners – like the royalty they are.

We chose the name “Royal” as our way of expressing the high status we believe artists deserve in our society. But by no means does the name suggest we expect lofty perfection. Quite the opposite. There is no expectation for being flawless. Some of the best music has come, and will always come, from an artist making a “mistake,” one that leads to a new and surprising path. We embrace that. Make mistakes. Make tons of mistakes - BUT learn from them.

As Miles Davis said, “Do not fear mistakes – there are none.”

In 2022, after celebrating our first anniversary, we transitioned to a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization and expanded our mission. While music is our core, we knew this community needed more - comedy shows, karaoke, musical bingo, private parties, vendor fairs. The Royal is no longer just a listening room, it is a community resource, a gathering place, and a venue for artists to thrive.

Meet The Royal Crew

Bridgett Gordon

Bridgett is a passionate leader, musician, and community advocate. With a Bachelor's Degree in Music from Temple University, she specialized in classical percussion and discovered her deep love for performing. These artistic roots have shaped her mission to help others uncover their true potential and explore their talents.

As the Executive Director and Co-Founder, Bridgett thrives on serving her community, whether through performance, running sound at Open Mic and weekend shows, or fostering creative spaces. Her love for music extends to playing drums and singing, where she continues to express her artistry.

Outside of her professional endeavors, Bridgett cherishes quality time with her family and her loyal companion, Fozzie, the Royal mascot.  When she's not working at her office as a paralegal, or planning a Royal event, Bridgett is probably listening to  true crime podcast or making pasta fagioli.

Joe Petta

Joe is our General Manager who has been a part of The Royal family since it's inception. You can often find him greeting guests at the door and fixing problems when they occur!

Joe is a passionate music enthusiast. His love for classic rock, punk, and metal is deeply rooted, with Pink Floyd holding a special place in his heart as his favorite band. Whether it's attending live concerts, discovering new artists, or revisiting iconic albums, music is an essential part of his life.

A self-proclaimed tech nerd, Joe has a keen interest in exploring the ever-evolving world of technology. From staying updated on the latest gadgets to diving into software innovations, he enjoys immersing himself in the tech sphere. Joe is responsible for the set-up and maintenance of our live stream and our in-house IT person.

Joe would like to thank ChatGPT for this bio.

Steve Delaney

Steve Delaney is a veteran drummer, bassist and guitarist who has worked in live audio production since the 1990s with Goo Goo Dolls, Blues Traveler, and countless local performers at a host of venues including the Navy Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in Annapolis, and Veterans Stadium in Philadelphia. He brings his keen ear for live sound and an artistic approach to supporting a great live performance with the perfect balance of clarity and enhancement, informed by decades of live and studio engineering.

Steve can also be found performing on the Royal Stage, or with South Jersey's premiere grunge tribute band Sanctuary.

When he's not working in music and production Steve collects pens, which he one day intends to melt down and recast as a giant sword.
